MESSAGE NOTES:
“An Uncommon Greatness”
Series, “Good to Great,” Message 2”
Mike McDaniel, Lead Pastor
Matthew 5:7-12
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Jesus wasn’t a conquering King, he was a compassionate King.
Jesus doesn’t force us into his Kingdom, he invites us in.
Compare the 10 commandments to the 8 Beatitudes.
Four Actions of a Great Person
1) mercy giver
We love getting mercy but not giving mercy.
Eph. 2:1,4-5
Titus 3:5
Heb. 2:17
grace: Getting what you don’t deserve.
mercy: NOT getting what you do deserve.
2) purity of heart
God does his greatest work inside out. Starting with the heart.
3) Peace-maker with others
4) Preserver persecution
Jesus was a mercy giver.
Jesus lived with a pure heart.
Jesus was a peace-maker.
Jesus suffered to the point of death.
What makes a person great? Be as Jesus is and do as Jesus does.
