MESSAGE NOTES: “Killing the Fruit Killer”
Series, “Fruitful,” Message 4
Brett Ferguson, GPC Member

Romans John 15:4-5

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Abiding is a battle.

The Reality of the flesh and the Spirit:

  • Good news: you have a new nature

  • Bad news: you have “flesh”

    Flesh is: unredeemed humanness

  • The reality is: there war within you

The Power of the flesh and the Spirit:

We are freed from the penalty and power of the flesh, but not its presence.

The Direction of the flesh and the Spirit

  • Spirit always leads to: life and peace

  • Flesh always leads to: death

    Romans 8:6-8

Romans 8:9-13-God's Power is helping you abide.

Abiding is a battle but we don’t fight alone.

Fighting the flesh:
- Renew your mind
- Starve your flesh
- Confess your sins

How many times does the word "mind" comes up in the Bible?

Romans 13:4 or 14

What do you need to do to fight the flesh?

Summer 2024

Summer 2024 is my 1st summer that I've had off since college. It will be a very different one for me because I am catching up on all the things I've missed by not having summers off.

Here is what happened during the summer:
-Amber fell at her school hurting her leg. Can't walk on it most of the time. Started her PT.
        -Tornado in NWA
        - Mom got bite by a copperhead.
        -had gallbladder surgery.
-Wes and family came to visit.
-went on a summer vacation to Hot Springs.

 Here is what I did:
-Took time to sort through my clothes
        -cleaned of the couch
-helped clean up after And school ended early because of the tornado.
-cleaned out my bedroom (sort of)
-went home for a week to help mom and Amber since both were hurt.
        -switched banks.
-healed from gallbladder surgery for about 2 weeks.
-went and spent the 4th of July in MO to see Wes and the family.
-Got ready for a 2 week vacation.

Rooted in Christ

Ephesians 1:1-14

These are spiritual blessings from God:

I'm chosen
I'm made blameless.
I'm adopted.
I'm redeemed (saved) from the darkness, the laws, and sins.
I'm forgiven.
I'm at peace with God and others.
I'm sealed with the Love of God.

WHY?
Am I sealed with the Love of God:

Ephesians, Chapter 1:
It’s according to his love. (1:4)
Because he is rich in grace. (1:7)
It’s his his eternal purpose. (1:5, 8, 11)
So that his glory will be praised. (1:14)

Chapter 2
He is Rich in Mercy (2:4)
Because of his great love (2:4)
Because of immeasurable grace and kindness (2:5)
It’s a gift (2:8)
So that we would walk in good works (2:10)

Which Road Will You Take?

MESSAGE NOTES:
“Which Road Will you Take?”
Series, “Good to Great” Message 10
Mike McDaniel, Lead Pastor

Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV)**

13) “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14) For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

Two kinds of treasures
Two kinds of masters
Two ways
Two teachers
Two foundation

Jesus likes the number 2 in the sermon on the Mount.

Two ways.
Two outcomes
Two gates
Two roads
Two crowds
Two places

Verses 13-14

When you come to a fork in the road. Take it.-Yogi Bear

Two paths to ponder

1) Popular counterfeit path

Those who enter by it are many.

What is the popular way?

• It’s compromising

• It’s enticing

2) Radical Jesus road

• It’s a sacrificial road.

• It’s a courageous road.

A life in Christ brings salvation.
A life in Christ brings freedom.
A life in Christ brings provision.

5 Ps for Praying

“SMART Prayer”
Series, “Good to Great,” Message 6
Mike McDaniel, Lead Pastor

Matthew 6:5-15 (English Standard Version)

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11
Give us this day our daily bread,
12
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Prayer isn’t for IMPRESSION.
Prayer isn’t for PERSUASION.
Prayer is for
communion
 .
Prayer is self sufficient.

Five SMART Prayers

1)
Praise

2)
Priorities

3)
provision

4)
Pardon

5)

MESSAGE NOTES:

“Anger Management”
Series, “Good to Great,” Message 4
Mike McDaniel, Lead Pastor

Matthew 5:17-26, 38-42

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Matthew 5:9-Being a peacemaker

Verses 17-26 tells about it
Verses 38-42

Life Principle:
God’s promises aren’t always
fast
, but he is always on
time
 .

Long definition of greatness:
Greatness is me becoming a bit more like Jesus everyday, so much so that those closest to me see Jesus in me and
experience
 Jesus through me.

Four moves peacemakers make

1) Choose
anger
 wisely

2) Don’t weaponize your
words

PROVERBS 18:21
JAMES 1:19

3) Initiate the path toward
reconciliation

Verses 23-25

Leave
Go
Be reconciled
Come to terms

It takes two to work on it.

Roman's 12:18

4) Trust God with
justice

Verses 38-42

Right on principal, but wrong on how it is handle.

God is offended by our sins.
God doesn't mess his words up.
God initates reconciliation.
God beings justice.

Isaiah 1:18
