"Take The Time to Swing"
I had this thought the other day while I was at work. I think it was this past Monday and I am just now getting to write about it. I took my children outside to play at the regular time. I usually stand or walk around just to keep my eyes on all of the children and see what they are up to. Sometimes I take the time to just sit and talk with the children or stand and talk with them. I don't do it has often as I should and I regret that somedays especially if I see it but don't do anything about it. I will admit there are days like that whether we can help it or not. I like this saying because it just popped into my mind while I was doing just that by one of my little girls.
It all started when she asked me to sit down and swing by her. This is a girl that doesn't do that a lot because she is a very outgoing and talkative one. This day, though, she just wanted to sit and talk so of course I took the time to do that with her. It was almost time to go inside but I thought that I could sit down by her and talk with her and if it goes over a few mins. then that is fine. I took that time to sit and she just started talking. It was nothing serious but sometimes it doesn't have to be serious, they just need to know that you are there for anything and everything. Sometimes it is best to show them that you are there for non seriousness first so that might be able to trust you with the serious things.
We sat and talked about Christmas coming up and what she wanted for it. She also told me about going shopping at Toys R' Us on Black Friday and picking out things for her Christmas list. She told me what she wanted and what her sibling wanted too. Some of the things that she wanted was more ShopKins and a broad game that they have out now where you can play with the ShopKins. She also explained to me what the ShopKins were because I could never get the idea of what they were and why little girls treated them like Pokeman cards. The answer was "they are little pencil toppers" but they also like to trade them and play with just them. We also talked about her sibling and what the sibling wanted for Christmas.
We also talked a little about her Thanksgiving break and what she did over it besides going shopping. She also told me some other things that she had on her Christmas list but those were the main things so that is why those stuck with me. It was just a nice maybe 2 or 3 minute talk with her. Then, of course, it was time to go see what was going on with the other children. It was funny, though, because afterwork that day I came home and thought up this saying and thought to myself "How true is that in any part of life?" If we all just thought about "Taking the time to swing" and actually do it. That would make our lives so much better.
Thinking that is no surprise to me because, as a little girl myself, and honestly still to this day, I love/ed to swing in a swing. It was a way for me to calm down and just feel the breeze against my face. So this saying fit my life perfectly and it might become a theme in my life. It is strange to because now days you heard how some schools don't have swings because they are too dangerous but at the same time they are so helpful to the mental health of a child. I have worked at daycares that don't have them for their children and I didn't realize how much I have missed them until I went back to a daycare with them.
Thinking back on another job of mine the swings are where I had some touching talks whether swing with the children or just pushing them on it. It is where they would smile and that would be the only place they would smile throughout the day. I mean just imagine a child so upset in life and the one thing they can control is the swing but nothing else. The child is so locked in a bad life but the swing make them feel has free like a bird and that they could do anything like fly. Simple playground toys like the swings do a lot of good for the children but now days it is people looking at the bad and dangerous stuff that everything can do to a child whether all good or all bad or some of both.
I do know for a face though that I am either going to get swings for my future children or we will live close enough too a park where we can go swing whenever we want to. My future children are not going to grow up without a playlet, mainly swings in their lives.
Remember to: "Take the time to Swing."
"Today is a blank page. Yes, there are some things that need to be written in, and you could surrender your pen to them, letting events, exceptions, tests, and the judgements of others write this chapter. Or, you could take some time with God, that author and completer of your Faith and start writing today as the adventure He shows you it can be."-Rob Coscia "My heart is overflowing with a good theme as I recite my composition for the King. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer."- Psalm 45:1
