I wrote about the reason we went to Eucador. This entery is about the other side of this adventure. The side when we actually toured the country and learned about it and its people more. The side that we spent a whole day and a half exploring. The Sunday that we were there we went to church in the town that we were staying in and that we were helping out. The pastor of that church was the pastor that was trying to get the gospel told in the mountains and we were helping him get that started. We were one of the 1st few groups of people there, if not the 1st, to help him. We went to the church to see what it was all about. It was a pretty building inside made of all wood and had plastic chairs to seat in. You would have no idea that it was a church from the outside because it looked pretty small. I think it was one of the few churches even in the city because we stayed right by a really big Catholic church on the square and it was a very fancy one inside. Anyways, after church, we went to a rose farm and it was very interesting. It was all about how the people grew the roses and then got them ready to actully ship around the world. If you would look on the roses in all the stores here in the states, it actully says "Made in Eucador" and it was so neat to see where they grew. They said that Eucdor was one of the biggest suppliers of roses. I had no idea or even thought about that til I went there. They actully grow them in greenhouses. Next, they measure them to the right height. Then, they dipped them into a speical water with some kind of chemicals to make them last as long as they do. The last thing they do is put them in a box with an open top and then put them in the refigetor that they have and store them there until they are ready to be shipped to any store in any country. That's the only touristy thing that we did until Thrusday and we tour all day on that day. We did the chocolate tour, went to a market, went to the center of the earth, and ate a very neat pizza place. The chocolate tour was more like a chocolate persentation. We sat through a talk but during that talk we got to taste some of the chocolate that was bring made at the store. I guess, because of the Amazon Rainforest, Eucador is one of the biggest suppliers of chocolate too. We got to eat an actual coco bean and that tasted like the actully chocolate. It tasted better then a 100% dark chocolate bar because we got to taste a little bit of that too. We also got to taste a little bite of blueberry, coffee, orange, foral, and a spicey flavor of chocolate. We also got to eat a brownie made from Eucadoren chocolate and drink hot chocolate made from it too. The hot chocolate was really bitter but paired with the sweet brownie it actually tasted like the hot chocolate we have in the States. The chocolate store was on a square like place in Quito. Then, we went to have lunch at all pizza place. It was really neat because there was like 5 or 6 small pizzas on a large and long piece of wood. It took up to 4 or 5 mental pizza stands in the center of a few tables. It was neat to see. After lunch, we went to the market and spent about 45 mins there. I brought a bear made from llama fur and a tshirt for me and my husband. The tshirt, not the bear. I also brought a painting for my mom and a flute for my sister. AFter the market, we went to a museum that was at the center of the world (aka equator). We learned a little bit about the rainforest and a lot about the center of the world. There was an experiment of water and an egg. The water went the opposite way depending on which side of the equator it was on. The egg stood up straight because it was on the equator. We also got to step inside a big shoe that showed where the center was. It was really neat! This mission trip was great but we kept really busy! It did take me about a day after we got back to catch up on sleep because it was that busy. I would go back in a second though without a doubt in my mind this time! Although, going to the rainforest part of Eucador would be neat too so I could have both of those experiences of a lifetime!
